Some interesting action this year. Obviously, the big news was that the Warriors traded Brandan Wright for Troy Murphy’s contract and a second round pick. Also, some may find it interesting to know that Carmelo Anthony and Deron Williams were traded. So, while everyone is focused on analyzing the Brandan Wright move, in this post, I’m going to use ezPM to analyze some of these less publicized trade deadline deals.
DEN – NYK
The TRADE
Denver sends Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups to New York for Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, and Timofey Mozgov. Clearly, Denver got a good deal. They definitely received some talent for two players that they were going to lose. The real question is whether NYK made the right move.
The Stats

Raymond Felton | NYK | 1 | 4081 | 54 | -0.26 | 2.07 | -2.33 | 2.08 | -1.54 | -0.80 | 0.55 | 19.36 | 8.36 | 24.90% | 18.43% | 74.62% |

Timofey Mozgov | NYK | 5 | 910 | 14 | -4.65 | -0.92 | -3.73 | -2.65 | -0.88 | -1.12 | 0.62 | 23.30 | -17.35 | 15.29% | 38.32% | 55.21% |
In terms of the numbers, it looks like NYK comes out ahead here, and by that, I mean they come out ahead of where they are right now. Move Turiaf into the starting lineup with Melo and Billups, and the team looks to have improved quite a bit. I don’t think this move gets NYK past Miami or Boston, but it probably does prevent them from facing either of those teams in the first round.
The Verdict
This is a win-win. NYK improves and Denver gets some young talent in return, although I’m not convinced any of the four are going to be difference makers in the long run.
UTA – NJN
The Trade
Utah sends Deron Williams to New Jersey for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, two first round picks and $3M in cash.
The Stats
NAME | TEAM | POS | POSS | GS | EZPM100 | TO100 | TD100 | O100 | D100 | REB100 | OEFG | OWN | OEFF | USG | ORR | DRR |
Derrick Favors | NJN | 4 | 1996 | 23 | -0.58 | 1.37 | -1.95 | -1.79 | 0.11 | 1.10 | 0.52 | 25.15 | -11.11 | 16.10% | 42.28% | 64.58% |
Devin Harris | NJN | 1 | 3201 | 54 | -1.09 | 2.02 | -3.11 | 2.08 | -2.69 | -0.49 | 0.54 | 19.93 | 7.41 | 28.14% | 7.59% | 81.82% |
Deron Williams | UTA | 1 | 3776 | 53 | 2.31 | 4.58 | -2.26 | 4.13 | -1.93 | 0.12 | 0.51 | 20.84 | 14.10 | 29.26% | 19.28% | 81.99% |
The Verdict
Deron is only +2.3 according to ezPM, so I wouldn’t classify him as an elite point guard. NJN clearly gains short-term here, with DWill over Harris. But long term, losing Favors, a talented and very young big, and two first round picks (which will be good ones, I assume), makes this trade questionable in my opinion. It’s a win for Utah, but I’d have to call it a push for New Jersey. I don’t think this move makes them significantly better in the short term or the long term.
LAC – CLE
The Trade
Clips send Baron Davis and a first round pick in ’11 to Cleveland for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon.
The Stats
NAME | TEAM | POS | POSS | GS | EZPM100 | TO100 | TD100 | O100 | D100 | REB100 | OEFG | OWN | OEFF | USG | ORR | DRR |
Jamario Moon | CLE | 3 | 1424 | 13 | -1.68 | -1.19 | -0.49 | -1.18 | -0.55 | 0.05 | 0.60 | 20.01 | -10.13 | 11.69% | 14.29% | 80.91% |
Mo Williams | CLE | 1 | 1490 | 24 | -4.06 | 0.55 | -4.61 | -0.00 | -4.36 | 0.31 | 0.54 | 22.35 | -0.00 | 28.97% | 20.90% | 80.77% |
Baron Davis | LAC | 1.02 | 2396 | 34 | -2.80 | 1.14 | -3.95 | 0.44 | -3.26 | 0.02 | 0.58 | 21.87 | 1.63 | 26.81% | 21.17% | 75.21% |
The Verdict
Ugh. This one isn’t about talent. It’s about Cleveland getting another first round pick and LA shedding salary (and weight). Win-win.
BOS – OKC
The Trade
Boston sends Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson to OKC for Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic.
The Stats
NAME | TEAM | POS | POSS | GS | EZPM100 | TO100 | TD100 | O100 | D100 | REB100 | OEFG | OWN | OEFF | USG | ORR | DRR |
Kendrick Perkins | BOS | 4.99 | 553 | 6 | -0.67 | -1.41 | 0.74 | -2.42 | 1.32 | 0.43 | 0.46 | 24.05 | -16.08 | 15.06% | 29.41% | 73.26% |
Nate Robinson | BOS | 1.49 | 1824 | 11 | -3.41 | -0.84 | -2.57 | -1.40 | -2.18 | 0.17 | 0.53 | 23.19 | -6.66 | 21.06% | 18.07% | 84.15% |
Nenad Krstic | OKC | 5 | 1897 | 45 | -1.81 | -0.18 | -1.64 | -0.58 | 0.16 | -1.40 | 0.50 | 20.35 | -3.86 | 15.05% | 27.74% | 60.82% |
Jeff Green | OKC | 4 | 3329 | 47 | -4.04 | -0.83 | -3.21 | -0.41 | -1.33 | -2.30 | 0.57 | 23.91 | -2.21 | 18.46% | 17.65% | 60.86% |
The Verdict
OKC gets the big man in the middle that they need, and dumps Jeff Green, who was destined to play out of position as long as he was playing next to Durant. It’s not clear to me why exactly Boston made this move. My speculation is that they feel by moving Jeff Green to SF (behind Pierce) that he has the skills to be much more productive. I guess. It’s a win for OKC, and a loss for Boston until they win the championship. (Let’s face it, if they don’t win — this move might cause Ainge his job.)
ATL – WAS
The Trade
Atlanta sends Mike Bibby, Jordan Crawford, Maurice Evans, and a R1 pick to the Wizards for Kirk Hinrich and Hilton Armstrong.
The Stats
NAME | TEAM | POS | POSS | GS | EZPM100 | TO100 | TD100 | O100 | D100 | REB100 | OEFG | OWN | OEFF | USG | ORR | DRR |

Kirk Hinrich | WAS | 1.5 | 2812 | 29 | 0.31 | 1.32 | -1.01 | 1.50 | -0.39 | -0.80 | 0.53 | 21.73 | 7.86 | 19.04% | 9.09% | 78.10% |
Hilton Armstrong | WAS | 4.49 | 805 | 2 | -2.18 | -1.19 | -0.99 | -2.71 | 1.29 | -0.76 | 0.56 | 24.22 | -25.30 | 10.73% | 32.23% | 61.70% |
The Verdict
The only part of this trade that really matters is Bibby vs. Hinrich. It looks like Hinrich should be an upgrade. Is it going to get Atlanta past, say, the second round? Doubtful. Worth a late first round pick? Maybe not. Probably a win for WAS, who needs to keep stockpiling young talent. I’d say it’s a win in the short term for Atlanta, but maybe a loss going forward.
